Hello,

Please note that after enabling that feature only customers who are not already in the list will be added as subscribed customers. Maybe you had the customers already in the list and that is why it didn't work.

Can you confirm if this was the case?

Regards,
Santiago.

Hi Santiago

This is what we're experiencing:

MageMonkey (before the MailChimp to Magento update)

Existing customer Email marketing status is either Subscribed/Unsubscribed/Cleaned

Now on the MailChimp for Magento update - with "Subscribe all customers to the newsletter" = Yes

If a customer checks out as a guest Email marketing status is ALWAYS blank and is only eligible for transactional emails. Only order notifications, abandoned carts, invoice receipts, refund emails etc. But IS NOT SUBSCRIBED TO THE NEWSLETTER. Despite the setting in the configuration.

If a customer checks out as a registered customer (with an account), email marketing is either subscribed/unsubscribed/cleaned depending on their preferences and eligible for email marketing campaigns.

MailChimp tech support is aware of this, here's a quote from them:

Thanks for writing back in. As far as how customers are passed over as "subscribed" or "transactional" in MailChimp, it depends on if they are registered or a guest. Here are some examples based on the action the user takes > the "Subscribe all customers to newsletter" settings in Magento > if they are registered or a guest > if they are categorized as subscribed or transactional:

Purchased > Set to "Yes" > Checked out and registered > Subscribed
Purchased > Set to "Yes" > Checked out as a guest > Transactional

Abandoned cart > Set to "Yes" > Not registered > Transactional
Abandoned cart > Set to "Yes" > Registered > Subscribed

Transactional addresses can be sent Abandoned cart emails and order notifications from MailChimp, but only subscribed addresses can receive marketing emails/Campaigns.

Thanks
Marco

Hi Marco,
Our experience is exactly the same, though I can't confirm the email marketing status if they checkout with an existing account.

Hello,

This is because guests are not Customer objects.
You can force the subscription for guests who purchase something within the store by setting THIS LINE to true.
